Preparing for our Visit
Thankyou for taking the time to consider Foresight Willwriters and Estate Planners acting on your behalf in the preparation of some of the most important documents you will ever instigate and which carry such vital and far reaching consequences.
For your peace of mind and security every Consultant as part of the Foresight team are members of the Institute of Professional Willwriters (IPW) with ongoing required professional training. As Members of the IPW all our Consultants also have to be CRB (Criminal Record Bureau) checked.
The following information is given to help you answer ahead of time the major questions that your Consultant will need to ask you. This will enable you to thoughtfully and carefully respond to the serious issues involved.
Executors
Have you thought about who you will appoint to carry out the terms of your Will? You will need to appoint one or more people to act as your Executors (who can also benefit from your Will). Executors can be your spouse/partner, children (as long as they are over 18), relatives, colleagues or friends. We shall be asking for the full name, including middle names, the complete address and contact details along with the relationship to you of any chosen Executors. Foresight can also be your nominated Executor.
Guardians
If you have children under 18 years of age, you will need to consider who would be the most appropriate and suitable guardians for them. We advise you to also consider reserve guardians in case your first choice is unable or unwilling to accept this responsibility. Obviously you will need to consider the age of any potential guardians, where they live, their ability to provide a secure home, the kind of values you have always expressed, etc. Again full names, addresses, contact details and relationship to you will be required.
Beneficiaries
Have you made a list of the full names (including middle names), address and full contact details of those you wish to include as beneficiaries?
Do you wish to gift specific amounts of money? Have you decided the amounts and to whom?
Have you thought about family heirlooms, jewellery, paintings, etc. and to who you would like to bequeath them?
Charities
If you are leaving money or items to charities, do you have the correct title and full address with their registered charity number?
Business Interests
Do you have any business interests that you would like to include in your Will or are there separate legal agreements in place?
Funeral
Do you have a specific request concerning your funeral arrangements? Do you wish to be buried or cremated? This is the one aspect in a Will you do not need to include and is the one clause that is not legally binding – it is a wish that is there for the potential benefit of the Executors in exercising their duties.
Safe Storage and Administrative Centre
Foresight Estate Planning provides an ongoing service for our clients at a minimal annual cost. Some of the advantages are outlined below:
- Our storage facility will protect your vital documents from loss, fire, theft and damage. We will write to your Executors informing them of where your Will is stored and how to retrieve it when required.
- We appreciate your circumstances change and we will contact you periodically to review your current arrangements.
- We also will keep you informed either personally or via our regular ‘news’ updates on our website www.foresightwills.co.uk of relevant changes in the law which may affect your estate. From time to time helpful articles will be posted on the website for your interest and information.
- You are also invited to store any sensitive documents you may wish to hold with your Will on a complimentary basis.
FAILURE TO SECURELY STORE YOUR WILL COULD RESULT IN SOME OF THE FOLLOWING:
- As already stated documents could be lost or damaged through fire or theft.
- Any changes in your personal circumstances will result in the need for a new Will to be written at full cost rather than the minimal administrative fee for amendments charged if stored with Foresight.
- Confusion and distress. Will your family know where to find your Will when required?
If you do not store your Will with Foresight already, please email info@foresightwills.co.uk or call our Administration & Storage Centre staff on 01603 307 699 and we will be happy to assist you.
